What to do – and what not to do – this Valentine’s Day

Roses are red
Violets are blue
How will you know I love you?
I’ll V-mail you

Looking for ideas for Valentine’s Day?Let your fingers do the walking… and pop off an e-mail.There are no awkward situations, no lapses in conversation, no need for eye contact and no massive increase in heart rates !Last year, 10 million e-cards were sent and with social sites like Twitter and FaceBook gaining popularity, this year, the cyber-highways are going to be even more choc-a-block with V-mail.
Hey, wait a minute. What’s the buzz here ?  Isn’t Valentine’s Day all about racing hearts?Isn’t it all about passion and romance and love?Yes, e-mail (or rather V-mail) may be quick and convenient, but the real essence of Valentine’s Day is about demonstrating your emotions in a tangible way.
And some of those ways could be the traditional red roses, a box of lovely chocolates, stunning lingerie or a quiet dinner to something way out of the ordinary like white water rafting (just perfect for getting the heart rate going!)
You won’t be alone if you choose to say it with flowers.  In fact, you’ll be among the over 30% of people who choose to say it with flowers. And if you’re a traditionalist, your red roses will be among the over 190 million that will be sold in the States over the holiday. Some research figures say that around 45% of people will celebrate the occasion with a romantic meal, while 38% will take the sweet route by giving candy and 12% will hand over cologne or perfume. And the internet won’t only be used for millions of V-mails on February 14th – millions of consumers will go online to buy that special something for that special someone.Online sales last year for the Valentine’s Day season topped 905 million dollars !
And it doesn’t seem that equality of the sexes comes into play on Valentine’s Day with men spending an average of around 150 dollars and women around 85 dollars. But as we know – it’s not really about how much, but about sincerity.A home-cooked meal or a bunch of garden flowers can say ‘I love you.’
And when it comes to thinking about things, lots happens on Valetine’s Day.When it comes to thinking about their future and the BIG day, apparently 52 per cent of men choose Valentine’s Day to propose!
But if you’re not going to do anything on February 14th, perhaps you should reconsider.  A whopping 53% of women will dump their boyfriends if they don’t receive anything from them come February 14th.So unless you are looking to lose your loved one, it’s probably a good idea to visit your florist in Perth, jewellery store, candy shop or online lingerie shop and start spreading the love!
