Getting the Perfect Gift for a Retiring Teacher

Teachers provide so much to our kids on a daily basis. Finding special retirement gifts for teachers who have helped your kids learn is a terrific show of thanks for all they do. Whether it is from only you or a group effort you can be sure they will appreciate the thought behind it.

Retirement should be a happy time in an individual’s life in which they are anticipating sitting back and unwinding after many years of work. That’s how come you should go with something that will be memorable but not something they would typically see as related to their job. Selecting desk caddies and briefcases as gifts for retirement might well be considered as not much more than clutter for somebody who is retiring.

If it is a teacher you know well then you may think about a personal gift such as a favorite bottle of wine or a gardening set. If you know she is planning to do a little traveling then you might want to go with something like individualized luggage tags. The gift doesn’t have to be substantial, just something to say thank you and show that you are grateful for all of their hard work.

If you are not sure what the person would have a preference for then you can usually never go wrong with something like a personalized coffee mug or photo frame, perhaps one with her students photos included. Or you may think about retirement gift ideas such as personalized luggage tags or a share in a stock. It’s always more the thought behind the present than the actual size of the present you give.

If you can afford to spend more or perhaps go in with a group to purchase the present then you might consider something a bit larger. Things like luggage sets or spa day trips or even a nice night on the town with tickets to a special event would make lovely retirement gifts for teachers. The individualized crystal plaques that can be purchased in some stores make marvelous presents that would be cherished for years and years down the road.

If the present is for a teacher who is currently teaching your child then you might want to let your child help to select the present. This gives your child a chance to feel like they are part of the occasion and show how much they value their teacher.

Regardless of what you decide on, as long as your present comes from the heart, then the teacher you are buying for is sure to love it. Teachers spend each and every day taking care of our children and helping to make certain they get the best education they can. This is a way to give them something back and show you appreciate what they have done.
