Do You Know All There Is To Know About Halloween?

Being one of the most exciting holidays of the year, Halloween is celebrated each #1st of October. Halloween is known as a fun holiday, people organizing thematic festivals with costumes and fireworks, while children go from door to door for “trick and treat”. The first ones to be acknowledged for celebrating Halloween are the Celts from Ireland and England as the holiday comes from their Samhain festival. The migrations of the Irish and Scottish people to North America that took place in the XIXth century brought diverse Halloween customs with them.

The following century, occidental countries began to be familiar with various Halloween traditions. Nowadays, Halloween is famous around Ireland and the United States, but it is also popular in countries such as Australia or Canada, and in some of the occidental countries that were familiar with the holiday during the XXth century.

Halloween is a celebration for everyone, children and adults, who get to become various characters, such as vampires, minnie mouse, or ghosts.. The holiday indicates the night when the dead are allowed to walk free again, the two worlds of the living and the dead being as one again. People dress as spirits and other characters, representing the idea that this is the night of the “living dead”. A popular tradition is that of “trick and treat”, when children wearing costumes walk to people’s doors asking for treats.

As with other holidays, on Halloween people decorate the houses and the streets with various symbols specific to this holiday. In Ireland, a common tradition on this holiday is for people to receive a piece of a special pie, consisting of fruits covered by bread. Each piece of the pie is meant to describe the future of the person: success or happiness, depending on the content of the pie.

People play various games on Halloween, such as getting as many coins and apples from water. The game creates a competition as each person tries to get as many fruits and coins as possible by using their mouth only.

The apples are filled with coins for children as it is harder for them to reach the coins in the water. Returning to costumes, people love wearing butterfly costumes or fairy tale costumes on Halloween as they get to pretend they are someone else for a night. Adults love Halloween as much as children due to the fun the holiday brings with it.

This holiday is no different from others when it comes to the tradition of people decorating the house together with their children. Halloween night is party time for people that choose to spend it by going to various bars or restaurants that offer a thematic night. Due to the intense participation from adults, Halloween costumes evolved, so that the bad witch and the vampires became really seductive characters.

As it became more and more popular Halloween now combines traditional and modern elements. The holiday is no longer conventional as there are no barriers when it comes to the night parties. The holiday is celebrated differently from one country to another, depending on the traditions each region maintained and the changes that took place. Children and adults expect Halloween with the same excitement and, more than that, they enjoy the holiday as it is today.
